Tex Ordonez, Sarah Facuri & Kaki Teodoro Join The Cast of Into The Woods

Theatre Group Asia (TGA) announces the casting of multi-awarded actress Tex Ordoñez as Cinderella’s stepmother. Breakthrough theater and television actress Sarah Facuri and award-winning theater, film, and television performer Kaki Teodoro are set to play Florinda and Lucinda respectively, Cinderella’s evil stepsisters. They join an illustrious lineup of theater giants like Lea Salonga, Arielle Jacobs, and Eugene Domingo in TGA’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods, this coming August at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater (S-PAT).

Ordoñez shares, “I’m excited to give my version of Cinderella’s stepmother, that maybe she is not as evil as she seems. I love how our favorite children’s stories and characters somehow intertwine to experience a magical twist.” Ordoñez was a member of the Tanghalang Pilipino Actor’s Company. Her production credits include MagnificatSino Ka Ba, Jose Rizal?Nasaan Si Hesus?Dreamgirls, and In The Heights under Atlantis Productions; Ballet Philippines’ Darna; and ABA Productions’ Around the World in 80 Days in Hong Kong. Recent works after a long hiatus include Baka Naman HindiLam-angAnakdatu for which she won Best Lead Actress in a Play at the Aliw Awards and Leaf Awards, and Sandosenang Sapatos. She was the well-loved ‘only Norma’ in BuruguduystunstugudunstuyAng Parokya Ni Edgar Musical. Her Virgin Labfest Festival production credits include The Unreachable StarBienvenuta Al Lido Di Venezia and Regine: The Fairy Gaymother.

Actress, director, and artist Sarah Facuri on playing Florinda says, “What excites me is how bold and sassy she is. She’s dramatic, ambitious, and totally unapologetic about going after what she wants! I love getting to bring that kind of character to life, especially with the fun twist on the fairy tale that makes her journey even more exciting.” Facuri adds, “I’ll always be a Sondheim fan, but what's amazing about Into the Woods is, it flips familiar fairy tale characters on their heads, diving into the messy, real side of ‘happily ever after’. With clever lyrics, stunning music, and unforgettable characters, it reminds us that no one is truly alone, our choices have consequences, and life is about finding our way through the woods together.”

Facuri’s theater credits include Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical, the Philippine and Singapore runs of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Kinky Boots, Waitress, Green Day’s American Idiot The Musical, No Filter: The Millennial Monologues, Dog Sees God, Grease the Musical, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. Facuri made her directorial debut at Virgin Labfest 18: HITIK with 10 to Midnight by Juliene Mendoza. She has since directed several productions, including serving as Assistant Director for Atlantis Imaginarium Young Theatre’s Madagascar: The Musical, and The Playbook Club’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Metro Manila Film Festival 2024 Best Supporting Actress for her role as Nimia in Pepe Diokno and Ricky Lee’s Isang Himala Kaki Teodoro is a highly sought-after performer in the Philippines and in productions abroad. Her impressive experience includes noteworthy performances in Every Brilliant Thing for which she was awarded a Philstage Gawad Buhay Awards for the Arts Female Lead Performance in a play, PINGKIAN: Isang Musikal, CONTRAMUNDUM: An All-Star Concert ng Ang Larawan, Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah The Musikal…Yun Lang! International credits include High School Musical Live! and the Tarzan Singer for The Golden Mickeys. She trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA Acting Essentials) in Sydney, Australia.

On playing Lucinda, Teodoro describes, “I love playing dark, humorous characters. It is so exciting to play the stepsister Lucinda because she is cruel and comical. I love that combination. I'm going to have so much fun exploring her superficial nature, her desperation, and the family dynamic. Into the Woods is one of my favorite musicals of all time. The songs are hilarious and haunting. The musicality is difficult, beautiful, and memorable. You carry them with you as you grow older. The layered storytelling, the familiar fairytale characters with very real, human characteristics who have to deal with the consequences of their actions. I could go on and on. It is truly one of the best musicals ever written. What an honor to be a part of this staging and this cast.”

Behind this production of Into The Woods is Tony Award-winning visionary Clint Ramos, who serves as overall artistic and creative director alongside co-producers John and Joanna Echauz, and S-PAT Executive Director Chris Mohnani. The show is directed by Chari Arespacochaga.
